The Secret to Real Success in Today’s World
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 (NKJV).

In a world where success is often defined by likes, followers, promotions, or possessions, God offers a better way—one that brings true peace, purpose, and prosperity. Let’s take a look at a powerful instruction God gave Joshua when he stepped into leadership after Moses:
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8
This verse is often quoted, but have you ever stopped to ask, how does this apply to us today—especially now that we live under the new covenant of grace through Jesus Christ?
Back in Joshua’s time, the law was all they had. Meditating on it was key to staying in alignment with God's ways. But today, we have something even greater—the finished work of Jesus and the full revelation of God’s heart through the New Testament.
The apostle Paul tells us: You are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14. That changes everything.
What’s the New Covenant Way to Success?
In Christ, success isn’t just about achievements. It’s about living in alignment with God's purpose, empowered by His Spirit, and grounded in His unshakable love. But the principle of meditation still applies—it just looks different.
Instead of meditating on laws, we now meditate on the truth of Jesus—His love, His finished work, His promises.
And meditation, in the Bible, isn’t silent or passive. The Hebrew word for “meditate” (hagah) literally means to mutter or speak under your breath. That’s why God told Joshua not to let the Word depart from his mouth, not just his mind.
So How Do We Meditate Today?
It starts in the heart. Real meditation is not about repeating verses; it's about letting the truth of God's Word come alive inside you. Psalm 39:3 picture this beautifully: My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue.
When the Word burns in your heart—when you really see Jesus in it—your mouth will speak with power. That’s when your declarations carry faith and life, not just words. When you say, By His stripes I am healed (Isaiah 53:5), and you mean it with a revelation of Jesus’ sacrifice, you’re not just quoting scripture—you’re releasing spiritual authority.
Make It Practical
In these uncertain times—rising costs, global tension, personal stress—don’t let the news or your circumstances shape your mindset. Let God’s Word do that.
Start each day speaking a promise of God aloud. Write it down. Let it sink into your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you fresh perspective to see Jesus in the Word. Let it burn in you. And then, speak—not from fear or obligation, but from faith and revelation.
That’s the new covenant way to success. Not hustle, not striving—but resting in grace, speaking with boldness, and walking with Jesus.
Real success isn’t just about what you achieve—it’s about who you become through the power of God’s Word alive in you.
Let His truth burn in your heart today.
